Speco Explains: Is Your Antimicrobial Coating Really Safe?

Many antimicrobial coatings make claims of being safe and non-toxic. However, if you take a closer look at their Active Ingredients, you will realise that Safe for Use doesn't necessarily mean Safe for You.

A quick search will reveal that most antimicrobial coatings contain Cytotoxic Active Ingredients. Looking into their Material Safety Data Sheet will show that while the product may be non-lethal, the crucial Toxicity section will disclose how it will affect you when you come into contact with it and for the long run.

Why is this important? Most disinfecting Active Ingredients kill everything in their path, unable to differentiate between harmful pathogens and healthy cells. In addition, due to long-lasting coatings binding to surfaces for long periods of time, constant and repeated exposure could lead to long term health effects especially if they are cytotoxic or carcinogenic.

Speco's R&D mandate was to create a green and sustainable product meant for long term safe use. Our Lab reports have shown that Speco® is safe for long term exposure and is non-cytotoxic*. This is our commitment as a B Corporation.

Be rest assured that your long-term health and safety are not compromised when using Speco®️.

*Speco's Active Ingredient is non-carcinogenic and does not harm healthy cells. Speco®️ is designed to puncture and electrocute the protective layer of harmful microbes (which are simple in structure); leaving complex human and animal cells unharmed.
